University of Pisa

Established in 1343, the University of Pisa is one of the oldest in the world. Among its glories is Galileo Galilei who was born and studied in Pisa and became professor of Mathematics in 1589.

The University also counts several Nobel Prize winners among its alumni, including Enrico Fermi  and Carlo Rubbia. Today the University of Pisa is a prestigious modern centre of teaching and advanced research. It offers 50 undergraduate and 73 postgraduate degree programmes in all the main areas of knowledge and advanced professional education.

The University has 11 Doctoral schools which provide a large number of research doctoral programmes; it also offers 46 third cycle specialisation programmes and 96 special shorter professional programmes of further education, including an MBA, and the PhDplus programme.

It has an excellent international reputation in all areas, not only in natural sciences and mathematics, engineering and IT, but also in other fields such as humanities, social sciences, medicine, agricultural and other applied sciences. With more than 50.000 students in a city of about 90.000 inhabitants, Pisa is an attractive environment for students and researchers in all fields.
